KARE 11 + Marines Toys for Tots event branding
KARE 11 and the Twin Cities Marines have been teaming up for nearly 50 years to bring children holiday joy. From the beginning to the middle of December, KARE hosts appearances by local businesses as they share their toy drive successes and get a little bit of face time with the community.
I was tasked with giving the studio’s most important community-facing brand a facelift. The pre-existing brand was an eye-bending, inaccessible, candy-cane-red-on-white which physically hurt to look at.
I wanted to offer something with imagination and atmosphere — and something that would be easy to print at the end of the day too.
Before & after
A quick look at what things used to look like versus after my rebrand.
A large part of the event is based around print! Banners, signage, posters for collection partners, step-and-repeats, and the best thing of all: a few big whiteboard checks.
Step-and-repeat
I designed the step-and-repeat to be re-used every year, even if the main sponsors changed. The sponsor banner, disguised as clouds, can be re-printed at a low cost, and hung up with the banner.
Parade of Toys & Holidays in Harmony
For the last day of the donation drive, KARE’s community coordinator and marketing director saw a vision of having a live-stream event to bring more toys to our donation boxes and eyes to the station’s streaming service, KARE 11+. The art director, a true musician at heart, helped reach out to some local artists to record some musical acts.
I was tasked with the overall branding of the two things, including an animated bug and a broadcast picture-in-picture for use in vMix.
