overviewLeigh Bardugo’s first foray into historical literature is The Familiar, a book about a woman living in 16th century Madrid. I have such an admiration of classical artwork from this era, so I was very excited to get involved in animating the hand… and its accompanying friend.
Book trailerIt took some troubleshooting to get the scorpion on the hand to move — mostly finding the right footage and a little bit of cussing late at night — but finally the curse was broken (read: I got to stop looking at the scorpion).
pre-order reelWhy not entice readers with a shiny object to drum up more interest? I separated the provided illustrated elements onto their own layers before animating to really get this print to sparkle.
Praise & book quotesFlatiron’s Marketing Director gave me a list of quotes, assets, and light design direction. I laid out the typography, found some assets, and hit the ground running.
